Rick Thompson Photography Owner
Welcome to my website:
My wife and I moved to beautiful Cedar City in February, 2018 after a successful career with
General Motors. During the latter part of my career, I ended up on the
marketing and advertising arm of one of the GM Brands, where my passion was launched
in product commercials and product catalogs, featuring stunning vehicle and
accessory imagery. A major part of my responsibility was the approval of our
finished sales catalogs. I carried my camera everywhere both on the production
set and on my personal time. My images improved and soon friends started asking
if I would photograph their daughter’s wedding. While I humbly accepted their
requests, word of mouth quickly got around and I found myself “Gifting” my time, while
honing my talents for a lot of my friends on the weekends. I captured wedding
memories of their daughters, and enjoyed the pure satisfaction of creating
beautiful images. When I finally did retire, I decided to continue my passion and
augment my meager retirement with three to four weddings a month in southern California
until December of 2017. We captured lots of beautiful memories and wedding
stories, memorializing my client’s images into wedding albums and portraits.
For years, I envisioned retiring in southern Utah, and then a wonderful
opportunity opened up in Cedar City to accomplish my dream. We are here now,
and loving everything about this wonderful community! Now I can continue to do
what I love to do, in this thriving little town referred to as Festival City, USA,
living life elevated, here in southern Utah at 6,000 feet.
My Passion:
My passion lies in creating art and telling “Your” love story through imagery. Images tell
a story, the story of your special day. They are fun, romantic, fun, spontaneous,
playful, and full of the day’s emotions. I am known for a Classic style of
wedding photography, balanced between wedding photojournalism with a direction
influenced by fashion photography. We pride ourselves on not being a point
and shoot photographer, but rather an artist attempting to create expressive imagery.
Occasionally, I get lucky when I see a unique setting or a nearby prop, and am
able to capture a remarkable image. We try to create at least one
"Signature" portrait as part of your special day. I constantly
experiment with new tools and techniques and blend various photography styles
to challenge my creativity and tell compelling stories.
My Style:
What exactly does all of this mean? My style is classic, rich colors, crisp, vibrant and
clean. There are a number of styles by others who process their entire client
gallery using a pastel filter. Classic style, I believe, is to capture and print accurate
skin tones, and the natural colors of a scene giving the overall image a
beautiful look, which I believe can, and will be “Timeless.”
Details:
I love wedding details! The details of a table setting, the details, of the floral settings,
the details of a couple’s rings set against a relevant centerpiece, all ramp into
the overall experience of a wedding day. Wedding images are more than
just an image of the bride and groom, but each is a small capture of the day’s events.
